Hacking Q3 Configs.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:28 AM EDT

Work the server configs over that we're going to use for Noog's LAN. I think I'm ready for my OSP Config Certification now. Really stream lined the configs which should making starting and stopping servers a breeze. Course the goal is to put 75% of the servers we're going to use up Thursday and just leave them up. OSP is going to be used for all of the servers...I have 8 bots in the CTF server running around for like 3 days now, I'm sure they're tired of play ;>

Server Time.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:34 AM EDT

Working on the servers and testing the configs this week for Noog's LAN party...looking good! Thinking of maxing the teams on the ca server at 4 as it's a popular request on the one we have up on the net as it will promote better games and spreading the party between servers and not everyone trying to get in one game...got a few CTF levels we might tryout as well that are supposed to be da bomb. Combing the level archives for some good Insta-gib levels ;>

Mission Impossible:2
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:19 AM EDT

I would have to say this is one of the better movies of the summer next to Gladiator. When we got out of the movie...everyone agreed it kicked the first ones ass. Kept waiting for the action in the first...to much suspense. This one...kicking it from beginning to end. This IS a John Woo film. The Style is his. NOW...I've seen some reviews from Shugashack (like they're movie critics) that say other wise and I'm here to say that they must have went to a smaller venue with poor speakers and a small screen as from where I was sitting I was drawn into the movie. The stunts are unbelievable...but if you went to this movie for some sort of realistic take on life then I think you have screwed up ideas on what makes a good action movie. Think about how many action movies that are in your personal top 5 are "believeable". The ones in this movie are over the top and will blow you away. You might laugh at a few of the action scenes...but you'll be laughing with the film and at the fact that they had the balls to do the shot. I give it 2 thumbs up...and so did mrshowbiz!

Update: Redwood and the boys from Stomped seemded to like it...as did a dude from ritual.

9" Nail.
Posted by Time2Die@ 4:14 PM EDT

Looks as tho the id staff checked out the NIN Dallas concert over the weekend and had some backstage passes. Here's a pick of Anna King (Carmacks soon to be wife), dog, Trent Reznor (aka NIN), and Carmack himself. In this race of who's the coolest, I would go with Reznor cause he's still the man behind the music, Anna King cause she is one super cool woman (read chick), and Carmack because of the engine that keeps me up late at night. Here's the pic.

Mindfazr.
Posted by Time2Die@ 1:05 PM EDT

Went to the Nine Inch Nails Concert last weekend and saw our old friend Mindfazr and his wife there. They're both doing great. Lost in the world of EverQuest (EQ). Too frustrating trying to play Quake on a hpb connection...don't blame him much. Justin is now 18months old and is doing great as well. His email still works if you want to drop him a line.

ETG, CA Stats, and Batman!
Posted by Time2Die@ 8:36 PM EDT

ETG is back up...WEE! (copyright 2000 KI|Time2Die). Also, I've upped the minimum number of frags from 20 to 50 in order to get a better sampling of data of the top players as we had some dudes with less than 20 frags in the top 20. Batman? Talk with StingRay about this one...or The_Beast, which ever is around at the time. Not KI|Batman tho...delusion has set in and reasoning will get you no where!

ETG apparently down
Posted by glide@ 10:41 AM EDT

For those of you who are trying to get on ETG (and that frequent our page), ETG's DNS and most of their servers are apparently down. There are 3 servers that are working via IP addresses only:

Ca.EnterTheGame.com - 209.212.160.78 (most of us are here currently)
Ca2.EnterTheGame.com - 216.65.63.100 (split away)
Canada.EnterTheGame.com - 209.91.118.82 (split away)

All the IPs for the IRC servers we hang out on are available on the ETG Servers/IP page.

Stats and misc debris.
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:25 AM EDT

If you haven't noticed...I reset the CA stats (as I had posted earlier that I would do) and am going to let them go for awhile. I actually re-did all of the weapon icons on the stats page from the default. Probably didn't notice as I did one or two a day all last week. Also re-org'd the right hand navigator of the web page a little. I think the LAN Party links are going to go under the other links after noog's party (unless Carl can hook me up with the info I need!).

Got a picture of yourself and you want to flaunt it on the picture page (wasn't that a great show)? Email it in! I'll be getting together an update and posting it tonight.

Recruit form.
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:03 PM EDT

If anyone put a recruit form in before 12noon today...you need to fill it out again as it was "broken" and wasn't submitted properly.

mIRC Channel Stats.
Posted by Time2Die@ 3:54 PM EDT

I actually forked over the 15$ for the registered copy of mIRCStats. Few extra's thrown in that over time might be cool. Anyway...check it out here.

5.16 Drivers...tested.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:46 AM EDT

If you run a Geforce...these are the drivers for you. Some of the weird bugs I was having with the previous 5.1x releases has been fixed. If you have a TNT class board there is a strange bug when doing vid_restarts via a resetting the fs_game in q3...say like when you join a CA server. Re-entering supposedly fixes it. I get crazy frames from this 5 series release and recommend it to anyone/everyone. If you are perchance using my autoexec.cfg tweaks and want more FPS, make sure you have "r_ext_compress_textures" set to 1 as by default I have it turned off...

Friday Rantings.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:40 AM EDT

Last night...was a glorious thing. Spent most of the week either being social (go away people...I got quaking to do!), messing with my second machine which ended up with me hitting the hardware store only to spend more down time because of a DOA Abit board (ARG!), and/or cursing the following ISP's; Bellsouth (fix that gd Raleigh ROUTER!), BBN planet (who run the GTE backbone), and RR.com (who took 5 days to figure out they had a fiber link down which gave everyone 750+ ms when accessing anything UUNet). Nihilist pasted a letter the rr.com folks sent out to those that had emailed/called in complaining (as I didn't get one) thanking everyone for their patience while they dealt with the problem. It pointed out the the fact that the rr.com network was redundant and how great a thing that was...personally I would have preferred the redundancy not have been there if they're not going to be able to recognize that a problem exist and take care of it in a timely manner. The Time Warner people are really going after business accounts...I would have hated to have been their commercial account rep's. 5 days is WAY too long...anyway! It's Friday! And as soon as I get out of work it might even start to feel like it! :>

Tidbits.
Posted by Time2Die@ 3:59 PM EDT

lvl has some sweet new levels. There's a space 1v1 level that actually looks pretty cool that I want to check out.

Also, PlanetQuake has a preview of id's upcoming mission pack. Here's the page to checkout The current features in Q3:TA will most likely not make it to the final product because most of themare plain silly. Basically re-issueing the Chain-gun and Nailgun from Q2 and Q1 respectively and another weapon that reaks "Spam abuse" with the return of Q1/Q2 style Runes/Techs from the CTF mods. Some new eye candy that probably won't run on your 733 with any decent frame rate forcing you to upgrade to the new 1.5 gigahertz CPU that will probably be out by the time id releases this. Add in a few new game types which are just stolen ideas from UT and other various 3rd party quake mods and there you have it. Q3:TA. id suffers the same fate that the scientist in the book/movie Jurassic Park made. [Ian Malcom]: "...your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should". god save the queen...

Quake3 Server Stats.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:01 AM EDT

Got them going pretty well on the ClanArena server. For some reason the 1v1 server is bleeding over it's info as well, but I think I know why. Now...we can modify the way the stats appear on the page. How they are sorted and what columns are included. Score, FPH, FPG, Frags total, Deaths total, games won, time, and last seen. Columns that can be added are: SUICIDES, SKILL, EFFICIENCY, DUELS, DUEL/WON, TEAMPLAYS, TEAMFRAG, PING, CTFCAPTURES, CTFRETURNS, CTFGETS, CTFPLAYS, and CTFPOINTS. Most of these don't apply to CA but might show up in a CTF server config. The Efficiency of a player can be seen by clicking on that players name (among other tasty facts). If you have any suggestions please email me back as I'm going to make the final changes to the config Sunday night and reset the stats completely Monday. Also...the config will include a line to remove anyone not seen in the last 10 days. Here's the stats link.

CA Stats
Posted by Time2Die@ 5:06 PM EDT

I wanna prefix this by saying that I'm still modifying and tweaking the config's for this program and there are still bugs. If it isn't updating or you don't think it's working right (aka you play all day and your still not even on the list) don't come crying to me. It's still a mystery to me why the OSP CA mod is so wierd in it's logging. At any rate... check out this page for Dawgpound Stats. When I get it stable (aka reliable stats), I will make a menu item on the right for easy access. This is for the 4.18.162.165 KI Dawg Pound CA server.

Configs.
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:03 AM EDT

For those that are looking for some config ideas...I have posted the latest version of my configs. Its split between 4 files. Autoexec.cfg has the visual tweaks, Global.cfg has my movement keys and default binds used for both DM and CTF, and DM.cfg and CTF.cfg for specific binds to those games. I use the K.I.S.S. method when possible (keep it simple stupid). I would say that is it pretty interesting to see which macro's have faded away between q1 to q2 to q3. Anyway...here's the link.

Connection Blues.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:57 AM EDT

Not Dead...just bummed. RR.com in the NC area has a router that jacks the ping by about 750ms everytime it goes to UUnet. When I access another network, say like the AT&T backbone, I get the usual ping times. And to add to insult my Bellsouth ADSL is acting up a little to hosts on the BBN Planet network. Depleted Uranium and DawgPound both reside on that network. Bummer. At any rate...check out VisualRoute if you haven't already. I have never been much or a "Trace route" man as most the utils were kinda bare in telling you much. But this little proggie will actually show you what network routers are on and where the packets are being lost or jacked. Mega Cool. And with the new version 5, it has a little mini web server that allows you to install this app and then access VisualRoute remotely over the web. Too freaking cool.

KI Allies with Railwhores [RW]
Posted by Time2Die@ 1:08 PM EDT

Been hanging with these guys for a while and we've decided to knit a closer relationship between our clans by allying together. What does this mean? Basically practicing together at scheduled times, sharing tips and tactics, and having another clan to scrim with where we can tryout different tactics and not worry about winning or losing. The RW guys are basically like other KI members except they're in a different clan. I would hold them to the same philosophies and attitudes we expect of each other. This is a link to the Railwhore page.

ILOVEYOU virus.

Holy Smokes...new demo tool from hell!
Posted by Time2Die@ 8:51 AM EDT

Saw this one over at ShugaShack. Argus Looks like you can actually map out where a team was dominating and/or the paths they took the most. From the screenshots it looks pretty amazing.

Clan Arena Update.
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:51 AM EDT

Orangesmoothie Prouctions (OSP) has released another revision of their tourney mod. Some Clan Arena (CA) enhancements include:

- Add: Allow option to force client repsawn on round start in CA
- Add: Client autorecord (Requires OSP client cgame) - which we probably won't use but will be handy for LAN tourneys.
- Add: Client-side cgame verification (requires OSP client cgame).
This option is used in conjunction with the sv_pure settings of
a server to fight client .exe hacks that bypass "pure" settings.

The respawning and the cgame verification will be in the "on" position on the dawg_pound server. You will need to turn downloads ON to connect as it'll going to download it's "clean" version of cgame.
