Tribes2.
Posted by Time2Die@ 8:57 PM EST

No clue how it is or plays as everywhere around town is out. Boy genius here with the amazing scoop that if you want to grab that "hot off the presses" game you need to pre-order. I do hear tho that it is a system hog from hell...

CTF4EVER!
Posted by Time2Die@ 12:07 AM EST

Lagwagon has written a little post on the cpl message board praising CTF. Gamers' Gauntlet is mentioned as well! Lagwagon reported the last G2 event for eSports America. Give it a quick read:

Smeg passed along this link to a site that shows what "Ugly rooms for the Beautiful people" really means...

It's the captions that make the site. Hit the next from the above link and keep trucking!

XEN OGL match.
Posted by Time2Die@ 12:03 AM EST

Our last OGL match on the old OGL system went off without much of a hitch. Played on Q3wctf1 for a grueling 30 minutes. Went up 2-0 only to almost have it tied up right at the end with XEN doing a 4 man rush to try and recover the flag before time ran out. In the end we won 2-1. Here's the SS < Game 1 >

Wednesday's OGL match.
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:59 PM EST

We played and beat Mhz Wednesday night for one of our last OGL matches on the old OGL system. Megahertz had some problems with 2 of their guys in NY with their CM's going down because of a storm up there but was able to field a team without having to reschedule. The highlight of the match was this shot here:

Yes that's right...I got the infamous "HOLY SHIT!" which made my night!!! I went back and took a screenshot from the demo...Have a great weekend!

SLAYER OWNS YOU!
Posted by Time2Die@ 6:28 PM EST

    Not really...but hey!

Been working on my linux skills as well as revising my Quake3 server how-to with a much needed update. Going to rock as I've already knocked out the cmdlist and just need to touch up the cvarlist with some new stuff that cameout with 1.27. Pretty much all of the server guides out there suck. Also fixed some G2 bugs the servers had last time...documenting them into the how-to is nice.

My old page: http://www.time2die.org/index.php?main=howto

You can see how I haven't updated in 6 months! =>

Stupid Hosts files trick.
Posted by Time2Die@ 1:32 PM EST

Want to connect to the Depleted Uranium server ultra fast but typing the ip (or jargirl.digitaljedi.com :) got ya down? WELL...find your hosts file (not the hosts.sam for some of you win9x users) and add the following line:

63.73.156.13 du

And then from within Quake3 you can just type "connect du" and it'll work :>

The hosts file in win2k is in the /winnt/system32/drivers/etc dir. Win9x is usually under the /windows dir.

Atlanta LAN.
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:33 PM EST

There's a monthly (I believe...maybe bi-monthly) LAN located in Atlanta. Check them out here: http://www.reservoirdogs.net

Trading emails with one of the organizers and will post more info if I learn more.

CPL.
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:46 AM EST

People that get in arms about the CPL moving on to Counter Strike as their main tourney have to ask themselves the one question...when were they ever a contender for any of that cash and fame? The idea behind CPL is great but it was/is being executed poorly and selfishly. Anyone that has attended recent CPL events will tell you that it's not about the gamers' ...it's about the $$$. For some the decision greatly effects their decision to compete competitively...but for the other 99% of Quake3 players it's just another tourney/competition to bite the dust whose only positive was media attention and $$$. No one event or organization makes or breaks a community. As for CPL departing...how can you miss something you never had?

Quake3 is ALIVE!
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:15 AM EST

Lately it has been become in style to announce that Quake3 is dead...mostly because nothing else is happening on the TDM scene, which dominates most of the Quake3 media attention. It seems that Media sensationalism and hype has reached the web as it has failed to ask the CTF community if Quake3 is dying or not. Even tho we suffer some of the "boredom" problems the TDM community has run into we have a huge impending map pak's and a Threewave map pak not too far off that will keep us alive and kicking and keep things exciting.

Why Counter Strike? Well it's new and fun and exciting. Is it the answer to all of the short comings and the salvation to all of the bored Quake3 junkies out there converting? Time will be the ultimate judge.

This isn't a "Quake3 owns all" post. Whether it's Quake3 or it's Counter Strike or UT or whatever...the only thing that matters is that you enjoy and have fun playing GameWhatever. Ignore the hype and what the "majority" thinks and go with what you enjoy playing.

HUGE LAN PARTY.
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:42 AM EST

Looks like a huge 1250 (yes twelve hundred and fifty) person LAN in DC is planned for Memorial Weekend (June 29th-31st). We'll see what this turns into as the tournaments listed are:

Half-life Counter-Strike
Half-life Team Fortress Classic
Quake 3 Arena
Starcraft: Broodwar
Tribes 2
Unreal Tournament

Which tells everyone all of nothing...o well. Still a really BIG LAN! :>

N8_Dawg update.
Posted by Time2Die@ 8:59 PM EST

N8_Dawg is doing good and is recovering at home. He can get up, out and about but still is without access to a computer and car (because of pain medication) but is in high sprits.

Servers.
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:36 PM EST

The "East3" and "Kentucy Fried Chicken CTF" (KFC) server ports have been setup in DNS...yes I'm lazy hehe. So if you connect to kfc.killersinc.com:27965 (or 27000) and/or east3.killersinc.com:27000 (or 27965) will work. Why not use default ports? Because we don't want the local Quake3 players to join the server which is local to them with their l33t 3ms pings. Also the OSP and configs have been updated to 0.99s2. You can gain admin/ref status when you have 2 or more people in the game and issue the following statement:

/callvote ref

All questions about (config) problems and/or usage should be directed to Time2die (ME!) in either IRC or email. I am working on default "enhanced" OSP configs that were used at the last G2.

ShackES.
Posted by Time2Die@ 5:14 PM EST

Looks like the scales have been tipped back towards a gaming community site...away from what was turning into ShackCS. Looks like one of the 519 guys is posting come Quake3 related posts...that are actually interested and not just mirrored news posts from the other news sites. If I want to read Bluesnews or Shugashack news...I'll go to the source.

Word on Drivers.
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:32 AM EST

I Wouldn't recommend to anyone downloading "beta" or "pre-release" video card drivers unless they are from nvidia or 3D Chipset. Be warned that any website can claim to have new drivers that are fake driver packages which can mess your pc up with bogus registry settings.

On a side note...I'm using 6.49's. Pretty stable.

N8_Dawg.
Posted by Time2Die@ 5:09 PM EST

As some of you might know and others are about to find out, N8_dawg was in a serious car accident last Thursday. After spending 2-3 days at Duke Hospital N8 went home Sunday recoup. N8 is expected to make a full recovery.

In other n8_dawg news...House of Uranium has posted a screenshot of their new stats system "GeigerCounter2"...look who's in the shot!

Updates.
Posted by Time2Die@ 4:34 PM EST

Updated the links on the right. I knew that q3ctf.org had gone away...but what the hell is in it's place? Added .Game Wallpapers to "cool stuff". Bascially checked and re-org'd some of the links on the right and added/deleted some stuff.

Made the "Picture" Page active again with a skeleton of pictures and a new look. Going for new pictures up everyday till we get everyone that's normally on the channel up. Pulling mostly from the LAN party pic's I have. If you see yourself up there or/and want a different picture posted email or msg me the link.

Morning.
Posted by Time2Die@ 5:24 PM EST

Got an impressive 240KBs off of my rr.com CM while downloading a linux iso image...IMPRESSIVE. A new RA3 is coming out later this week with some of the new "OSP" code...where's the MP3 player for OSP!!! My sonique lags me in high FPS battles...suxz0rs. Nothing much else earth shattering. I do think that ShackES should be renamed to ShackCS hehe...
