F.R.A.G.
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:27 PM EST

Off to the F.R.A.G. for some southern style lanning. Hope to come back with some killer demo's from the 1v1 and CTF tourney's they are holding there as well as some pictures and stories to share. Make sure to glance at the schedule as it's getting busy with the two practices a week and multiple matches. WOOHOO!

Nvidia 5.13 Drivers
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:09 AM EST

Holy smokes. Now THIS is a driver release. Before I go on a rant and rave about the extra FPS I got I would like to point out that I disabled sound before doing bench marks via setting s_initsound to 0 and doing a snd_restart. I'm also running Windows2000 on a 300a OC'd to 450 on 192megs of RAM with a Creative GeForce DDR at the default clock speed. Under the advanced properties for the drivers I pop'd the system ram used for textures from 5 (the default I think) to 16 (which was the max) and I verified that Vync was in the "Always OFF" position. You don't need to reboot for these changes to take effect.

With my current tweaks...I get about 99fps on demo2 at 640x480. After updating my driver I now get 117fps. One of the new features to this driver series is S3 texture compression support. By default texturecompression is turned on in Quake3...I turned it off and lost 1fps. With it on you'll notice at the RL on Q3DM6 compression artifacts (to put it midly). The command is r_ext_compress_textures. Set it to 0 to and vid_restart if you want it off. I will post my Q3 config's tonight and update the page with a link to them.

Thresh's Firing Squad has a nice review on the drivers as well as a follow up here. Here's the article with the links...

OGL
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:16 PM EST

We have advanced to the #8 spot in the OGL Quake3 Open DM ladder after playing and defeating clan IoD. First game was played on their server and I think both sides will agree that that was a mistake as the server didn't hold up under our load and was a bit laggy (to put it mildly). The second game was on our server with much better server performance and pings all around. Here's << Game1 >> << Game2 >>. GGs and thanks to everyone that played and showed up to support the effort.

Windows2000 Gamma settings
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:39 PM EST

If you haven't seen me pasting (spamming) this in the channel and you use Windows2000 try these settings:

seta r_ignorehwgamma "1"
seta r_intensity "1.8"
seta r_gamma "1.3"
seta r_mapoverbrightbits "3"

Bright and colorful but not washed out like vertex. You will really see the difference on Q3DM6.

Invincibles Teamplay.net CTF match
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:55 PM EST

So nice to play a match where you spend more time playing than picking the server. GG out to Clan Invincibles and all of KI that played and showed up to support the team. << Game1 >> << Game2 >> The first game was a 5-1 KI victory. The second game tho was a nail bitter. Even tho we made some hard pushes against the enemy D we couldn't bring the gold home. So in the final 2 minutes with the game a stalemate the enemy grabs the flag in a 4 person rush of our flag and runs to their base. I get killed and spawn near the outer YA on q3ctf3 and go after him. I pickup a rl laying on the ground (I think) and start wearing him down with splash but not enough to get him. Since everyone on his team is in our base he has no one to help him and I finally kill him as he's passing his own YA in his base. With now less than a minute I grab the flag and go for our base with a whopping 55h and with 4 seconds to go rocket jump from the base of our base to the top and cap with base 1 or 2 seconds to spare...it was a heartbreaker win at the buzzer. A side note...in teamplay.net tie games go to the team with the most frags which was us so the capture was redundant for the win. ;>

Lookie lookie
Posted by 2Wild4U@ 9:06 PM EST

Can you believe it? Wild updating! hehe
I will be posting ctf news here as it comes about, and any other tidbits that come my way. For starters, please take note of the maps that we will be playing Sunday. We need a good showing for this match.

New Recruit Form
Posted by Time2Die@ 6:08 PM EST

Well...our favorite "New Recruit" form has been fixed again. If anyone put one in since the new page design then you need fill one out again except ArcAngelOfDeath, yours come through fine.

OGL News
Posted by Time2Die@ 3:32 PM EST

As your OGL representative I thought I'd point out a news release posted on their page about a little re-org that basically states that some people have left, some people have been added, and they're dedicated to making OGL a better gaming ladder with more features and better up time. They have one dude dedicated to updating and upgrading the box the OGL web server is running on. Hell...I'd give'um 100$ if it would help them keep the page up for more than 24 hours ;>

Here's the Press Release...

KI Web page Phase II
Posted by Time2Die@ 12:15 AM EST

Slowly but surely bringing the rest of the sub pages into the fold of the new page design. Some of the selections have been re-worded and re-worked. IRC Channel Stats, #Killco pictures, and Active Q3 Servers have all been updated. Still waiting on some cool quake links to add. There's a demo page link floating around that I need. That level reviewing page I posted earlier will make it for sure. Email me your pic's for the #killco page if you want updates...

Quake3 Map Reviews
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:16 AM EST

Saw on Stomped.com that Quake3World is now doing a "Map of the Week" dealie. Well I checked out the link and read the review...weak. Not up to par to the reviews I'm used to reading. LvL Review plays and reviews almost all of the q3 maps out there...from both a level editors and players perspective. It's a great place to browse for maps. Check out this screen shot of Q1DM4 converted to Q3. Looks really nice as it's not just a straight conversion/rip.

Finally...SB Live Drivers from Creative
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:26 AM EST

Just as I was cursing Creative for not releasing their SB Live drivers for Windows2000 (the full driver), they release it. I would HIGHLY recommed the SECOND US site under the SB Live page. The first site gave me 20-30KBs where as the second on my cable modem gave me about 240KBs (sustained hehe). I'll be home tonight to try these out and will post any problem that I have. Here's the Creative Site and I have mirrored the files on the KI FTP Site

News Pro Woes
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:18 AM EST

Added a basic graphic to help break up the days and fixed a few Netscape bugs. The REAL problem is that I need to tweak the CSS page to work better with netscape and intergrate it with the rest of the page(s).

Schedule and Stuff
Posted by Time2Die@ 10:01 AM EST

I'm trying to stay on top of the schedule on the page...but it might be lagging a bit as I'm having to edit the file by hand. I'm also waiting for some screenshots from last nights match. Should have the "Matches" section up to date by the end of the week (as I still have to sort through my ss's and figure out what's missing).
